Open protocols, no enforceable standards.

2.What is intellectual property and what are the ways it is protected?
Is a personal concept, something that belongs only to you, and no more than one person can have that idea. It can refer to; inventions, music, opinions. There is always the issues of copyright and plagiarism, so when referencing intellectual property be careful.

  • Privacy of the user and their details

  • Viruses

  • SPAM

  • Spy ware

5.How can you protect yourself from these issues?

  • Install a firewall

  • install an anti-virus

  • Be aware of attachments

  • Be aware of spy ware

  • Do not give personal information about yourself

  • Do NOT reply to SPAM mail

  • Set programs that are downloaded from the Internet to maximum security

  • User peer 2 peer (P2P)software with caution

  • Keep you anti virus updated

Our first task in our workshop today was to visit a website called, www.copyright.org.au, and browse under the links; Copy wright information and All information sheets.

As an undergraduate i found the five information sheets to be relevant to me:

  1. Databases, comilations, tables & forums

  2. Libraries

  3. Moral rights

  4. Quotes & extracts: copyright obligations

  5. Websites: Creating and publishing on the web.

The are all areas that as an undergraduate student should face with if i havn't already.

I next looked at Music and the web at: http://www.apra.com.au/music-users/online_mobile/ online_mobile.asp

As the internet has developed, the music industry has explored the option of using it as another mode of delivery. As time goes on we haver gottne the concept, that music on the internt is FREE. Which it is not, and when we do use down loadinbg programs were we pay nothing the artists don't get paid or get acknowledged. A concept similar to plagarism. The use of music on the internet is an attractive selling point but when it's used it needs appropriatteclearnace to be obtained and used.

Though when music is downloaded, using programs such as limewire it bipasses all clerances. The reprocautions for this and are the exploitation of the reproduction of musical work and the lack of communication with the public (between byuer and seller).
